The historic 7-story Gothic Revival tower, originally known as the American Bank Building, was completed in 1924 adjacent to the Markle at Broad and Wyoming Streets. It was built by Mowbray & Uffinger, a popular New York City-based architecture firm known for designing large-scale public buildings and financial institutions, including Brooklyn's Dime Savings Bank. It was renamed the Traders Bank Building in 1934.
The building stands out for its unique structural features; note the gargoyles perched atop, along with the symbolic figures chiseled on the terra cotta façade, each representing a specific trade.
The first floor and mezzanine of the facility have been occupied by numerous financial institutions over the years. In the 1920s, the building housed a private club, the Craftsman Club, and in the 1950s, was home to the McCann School of Business. In the 1960s, the structure became known as the Citizens Bank Building.
A total renovation of the building began in 2013 and is expected to be completed in 2016. The building will be occupied by DBi Services, serving as their world headquarters.
